Plaque for Showroom Opening, Mark Lewis Design (and production) 1987-93
This showroom plaque measured 5 ft high and 3 ft wide. A sculptured solid brass frame surrounds a vitreous enameled panel.
The central inscription is written by hand in gold enamel, and is framed by a graphics device of yellow bars and roundels between two columns, over a background of intricate detail. The entire image was painted using enamel powders and pastes applied to the steel sheet, then fired to form the glaze of vitreous enamel which will last almost indefinitely.
HRH Prince Edward unveiled the plaque commemorating the opening of a significant new building in Liverpool, for Mark Lewis’ client at the time, Project Office Furniture. The project also involved the management of the showroom’s interior layout plus the day’s event, including lunch and afternoon tea for the 300 invited guests.
