Ceramic Sink. By Mark Lewis as Design Director, Lewis & Horning 1983-87
To deliver this commission, Shaws of Darwin were specially commissioned to make a unique Belfast Sink and Butlers Sink for Lewis and Horning incorporating a central 3.5 inch waste (able to take a waste disposal unit) and the L&H logo to the front side.
This process involved Shaws of Darwin making a ‘slip mould’ specifically for L&H.
The sinks were incorporated into the showroom display and installed into a number of kitchens commissioned that incorporated the traditional Belfast or Butlers sink.
Each installation included a teak draining board facility adjacent to and over the sink edge allowing the draining of suds etc directly into the sink.
The large format of the sink gave a generous basin size which would allow the user to accommodate the largest of baking trays to soak and the entirety of a family meals, cooking pots and serving crockery, prior to loading the dishwasher.
