Draining Board. Lewis Design London Mark Lewis 2017
Currently unique to Mark Lewis (Lewis Design London), this draining board and ceramic sink with cupboard and open slatted shelves underneath form a complete unit that can be shoved into the corner of a utility room, kitchen, outhouse, workroom, studio or garage.
The left handed option above shows the substantial nature of this piece.
It offers the owner a practical and robust sink and drainer that, once installed, will last a life time, and by the nature of the construction can be taken to the next home along with the rest of the furniture.
What makes this draining board work better than any other is the integral high backsplash. The construction of the board and backsplash, along with the incline incorporated in the design, has the enhanced draining facility machined in as a pattern of groves, containing the water and directing it down into the sink.
Any amount of water splashing about is corralled within the groove format and the high backsplash. The backsplash is not ‘scribed in’ to follow the subtle contours of the wall. It sits away from the wall by a few millimeters or in some places touches the wall, as appropriate.
The draining board is made by bonding solid planks of Iroko together forming the deck, up stand and the front sink edge down stand. The deck is set with in the right angle up stand with an incline, and is machined with the groves.
In addition, there is what is called a drip stop – a groove machined into the underside of the sink edge down stand. This prevents water capillering up under the board. It drips down from the grooves edge in to the basin.
Iroko is a sustainable hard wood possessed of the properties of teak. It is water impermeable, strong and dark- a product set to become an antiquity of the future.
