Sculptural Knife Block for Chefs
Meet the Lewis Design London knife block.
And it’s not just any old knife block – it’s one for living with… beautifully.
Many people have knife blocks that they’ve bought with a set of knives. All well and good – but what about the favourite knife you already own? What about when one breaks?
This knife block is designed to look good, to be hugely practical, and to last.
About this block
This fabulous knife block is both (beautiful and practical) – an architectural piece of art – and will not only grace any kitchen, traditional or uber-modern, but is designed to age well, to last, becoming tomorrow’s heirloom.
Its careful design means that it can also hold a sharpening steel – this really is designed for people who love their kitchens, are serious about cooking, want the very best, or all three.
Designer Mark Lewis has years of experience, enjoying both cooking and designing kitchens for the most demanding of cooks, chefs, enthusiasts and experts.
Most cooks/ chefs have a wide range of favourite blades, acquired over years of cooking. Storing in drawers runs the risk of injury and makes the knives less accessible. This beautiful, sculptural knife block is a game changer!
Each knife bearing slot (five in total) is created by formed panels, of similar thickness and graduated heights.
This creates slots of different lengths that can each accommodate several blades, which don’t have to be the same length, width or style. The blades’ handles are easily grasped to remove, and replacement is simple.
The block is available in two widths, 250mm and 150mm. Both versions are 190mm deep (front to back), and easy size to avoid taking up too much surface space whilst still remaining substantial. Its height is a uniform 284 mm, giving the narrower option an impressive ‘tower’ like effect, and the wider one an earthed feeling.
How’s it created?
The knife block comes with six wooden panels.
The slots are created by both the two panels of the same size and by the ‘step’ up to the next size.
These are bonded and vertical strips of identical wood are used to hold the structure upright, creating the fabulous, stepped effect that distinguishes this block from others.
The woods
The woods used to create this mini-masterpiece are maple and walnut, chosen for their strength and lustre, and because they age beautifully. (You can find out more about these woods here:
By using hardwoods, durability is built in, making sure that they can withstand even the toughest of kitchen environments, from busy restaurant kitchens, to less than careful family members in the home!
Because each is made by hand, each has its own grain and characteristics of the piece of wood chosen, and should you need a different type of wood, this can be made to order. (Simply contact Lewis Design London.)
Matching kitchen items
This beautiful knife block is designed in the same woods as the Lewis Design London chopping board, which has the same thoughtful design ethos.
Whether bought separately or together, both will grace even the toughest of kitchen environments.
Both are part of the Lewis Design London Home Accessories range.
